Here is the place to find tutorials about extemp.  They are designed to be long enough to be useful to the first year novice, but assume virtually no prior knowledge so that the total extemp newbie will not be confused or overwhelmed.  While these articles are very informative for first year extempers they probably wouldn't be very informative to those who have competed for a year or more.  The articles section will focus more towards experienced extempers whereas the tutorials are largely aimed at novice extempers.
